How the checklist is built
Each species' checklist comes straight from our gear guides, which in turn come from real-world fishing of those species. We talk in classes — line poundage, rod test curve, reel size — rather than specific brand names, because brands change and product lines come and go.
The checklist covers the minimum viable kit for that target. If a venue rents tackle that's perfectly capable of landing the largest fish in its ponds, we say so on the venue page; you can travel light. If a fishery genuinely demands gear that local rental tackle won't cover (GT popping is the canonical example), we say that too.
What this list does not include
- Clothing — see the sun-protection clothing guide.
- General travel kit — passport, electrolytes, Thai SIM, etc.
- Specific fly patterns — covered separately for fly anglers.
