When should I fish for...?
Month-by-month for Giant Mekong catfish
Year-round at Bangkok pay-lakes; cool months (Nov-Feb) most pleasant on the platform.
Region context: Bangkok pay-lake circuit. Pay-lakes fish year-round — month ratings reflect comfort + activity rather than absolute availability.
How to use this
Pick the species you want to catch and the region you'll be in. The tool shows a month-by-month rating — Best, Good, OK, Poor — based on water conditions, weather windows, and (where relevant) charter operator schedules. The note underneath explains the reasoning specific to that species.
What the ratings mean
- Best — peak window. Conditions, fish behaviour, and access all align. Book ahead.
- Good — reliably catchable. Slightly off-peak but the fishery is open and producing.
- OK — possible but compromised. Heat, weather, or off-season behaviour reduces consistency.
- Poor — generally avoid. Closed-season for Andaman charters, or behaviourally inactive.
Where the ratings come from
The data is hand-curated from our species, parks, and seasonal calendar articles. It reflects general patterns, not year-to-year specifics — sailfish concentrations vary, monsoon arrival dates vary, cool-season cool-snaps vary. Use the tool as a planning starting point, then check current conditions through our latest monthly reports.
For deeper coverage, the seasonal calendar gives a region-and-month perspective rather than a species-and-month one. The two views complement each other.
